So far everything has been great! Shipping was ridiculously fast, product came in great condition, and battery life is true to 4- 6 days. This is the second product I have ordered (the other being a Galaxy S7 over 3 yrs ago that is still kicking.) Very pleased with my purchases from RefurbLane.

Unfortunately it was a wrong listing. It was supposed to be a Forerunner 945 but what they sent me was a Forerunner 735. So I went for a return/refund.

I ordered a 245 Music edition and was sent the non-music edition. Based on subsequent handling of this error, I don't know whether it was due to willful deceit by the seller or apathy, but neither would surprise me. After exchanging emails to explain that I had received the incorrect item, I was instructed to return it for a refund. I then had to beg for a prepaid shipping label so that I would not be out further money. I specifically asked if they would sending me my purchase and was given an obtuse answer. I did this to see if I should shop elsewhere in the meantime. The resolution was merely a refund (amount tbd), so I am still without a watch over two weeks later and can now begin shopping again. Terrible experience and kind of baffling

Garmin Forerunner watches deliver specialized running metrics and training insights for runners seeking data-driven performance improvement. Choosing a refurbished GPS running watch gives you access to Garmin's advanced analytics while making an environmentally conscious decision. Find the training partner that helps you run smarter and achieve your goals.

What are the key features of Garmin Forerunner watches?

Advanced running dynamics: cadence, ground contact time, vertical oscillation, stride length, and running power metrics
Multi-band GPS: L1 and L5 satellite frequencies on premium models provide superior accuracy in challenging environments
Training metrics: VO2 max estimation, training load, recovery time, race predictor, and training effect analysis
Extended battery life: 15-80+ hours in GPS mode depending on model for long runs and ultra-marathons
Multisport tracking: running, cycling, swimming, and triathlon modes on higher-end models
Daily health monitoring: 24/7 heart rate, sleep tracking, stress monitoring, and Body Battery energy levels
Music storage: onboard music from Spotify, Deezer, or Amazon Music on select models for phone-free running
Cross-platform compatibility: works with both Android and iOS through Garmin Connect app

What are the differences between a refurbished and a used Garmin Forerunner watch?

A used Garmin Forerunner is resold without professional inspection or warranty. Running watches endure significant stress—sweat, impacts, weather exposure—that can degrade GPS accuracy, heart rate sensors, and battery performance. A refurbished Garmin Forerunner from RefurbLane has been thoroughly tested by trusted refurbishers following our Quality Charter.

Each watch undergoes comprehensive inspection of GPS satellite acquisition and accuracy, heart rate sensor performance, barometric altimeter calibration, accelerometer functionality for running dynamics, battery health, water resistance seals, button responsiveness, and charging capability. Every device comes with a minimum 1-year warranty and 30-day returns. You get reliable training data and performance metrics without the premium new price, while extending the life of quality sports technology.

Who are Garmin Forerunner watches best for?

Garmin Forerunner watches serve different types of runners depending on the model:

Serious runners and marathoners: advanced metrics, race predictors, and training load monitoring optimize performance and prevent overtraining
Trail runners: topographic maps, multi-band GPS, and elevation profiles handle off-road running better than basic watches
Ultra-runners and endurance athletes: extended battery life supports 50K, 100K, and multi-day events without mid-race charging
Triathletes: models like Forerunner 945 and 955 include swim-bike-run multisport modes with transition tracking
Data-driven athletes: comprehensive metrics help analyze performance, identify weaknesses, and track improvements over time
Runners wanting training plans: adaptive training plans from Garmin Coach or synced from TrainingPeaks guide structured workouts
Casual runners on a budget: entry-level Forerunner models provide GPS accuracy and basic metrics without overwhelming complexity

Which Garmin Forerunner watch should you choose?

Garmin Forerunner 965 is the premium flagship with a bright AMOLED touchscreen, full-color topographic maps, multi-band GPS, and up to 23 days battery in smartwatch mode (31 hours GPS). It includes every metric Garmin offers: running dynamics, training readiness, HRV status, race widget, and comprehensive recovery insights. Choose the 965 if you want the best display, longest battery, and most complete feature set for serious training.

Garmin Forerunner 955 offers nearly identical features to the 965 but uses a lower-resolution Memory-in-Pixel (MIP) display instead of AMOLED. The MIP screen is always visible in bright sunlight but less vibrant indoors. Battery life extends even longer—42 hours GPS mode. The 955 Solar variant adds solar charging to extend battery further. Choose the 955 if you want flagship features and prefer the always-visible MIP display or longer battery over AMOLED brightness.

Garmin Forerunner 945 is the previous-generation flagship that remains excellent for multisport athletes. It includes full maps, multi-band GPS, running dynamics, training metrics, and triathlon modes. Battery lasts about 36 hours in GPS mode. Choose the 945 for complete training features at better refurbished prices than the 955/965.

Garmin Forerunner 265 and 255 are mid-range models perfect for serious runners who don't need full topographic maps. The 265 has an AMOLED display while the 255 uses MIP. Both include running dynamics, training readiness, race widget, and music storage. Battery lasts 13-20 hours GPS (varies by model and settings). Choose these if you want advanced training metrics without the bulk and expense of flagship models.

Garmin Forerunner 165 and 55 are entry-level models for runners wanting accurate GPS without overwhelming metrics. The 165 adds an AMOLED display and more features, while the 55 is the simplest, most affordable Forerunner. Both provide accurate distance/pace tracking, heart rate monitoring, and basic training insights. Choose these if you're new to running watches or want simplicity over data overload.

Display comparison: AMOLED models (965, 265, 165) have vibrant, easy-to-read color screens that drain more battery. MIP models (955, 255, 55, 945) have always-visible displays in bright sunlight but lower resolution and less vivid colors. Your display preference significantly affects daily experience.

Browse models from entry-level Forerunner 55 through flagship Forerunner 965 to find features matching your running goals and budget. Different cosmetic grades let you choose between like-new condition or fully functional watches with minor wear. Garmin's durable construction means even Fair condition units typically perform perfectly for training.

How accurate is GPS on Garmin Forerunner watches?

Garmin Forerunner GPS accuracy is excellent and consistently ranks among the best for running watches. Entry and mid-range models use standard GPS with additional satellite systems (GLONASS, Galileo) for improved positioning. Premium models (945, 955, 965) add multi-band GPS using both L1 and L5 frequencies, which significantly improves accuracy in challenging environments like urban areas with tall buildings, dense forests, and mountainous terrain. Real-world distance measurements typically match certified courses within 0.5-1% on standard GPS models and even tighter on multi-band models. GPS acquisition is usually quick, locking satellites within 20-30 seconds outdoors.

What are running dynamics and do I need them?

Running dynamics are advanced biomechanical metrics including ground contact time (how long your foot touches the ground), vertical oscillation (how much you bounce), stride length, and cadence. These metrics help identify form inefficiencies that waste energy or increase injury risk. Premium Forerunners measure some dynamics from the wrist, while full dynamics require a compatible chest strap or Running Dynamics Pod. Serious runners find these metrics valuable for form improvement and injury prevention. Recreational runners focused on mileage and pace may not need this level of detail. If you're training for race performance and want to optimize efficiency, running dynamics are useful.

What's the battery life on Garmin Forerunner watches?

Battery life varies significantly by model. Entry-level Forerunner 55 lasts about 20 hours in GPS mode. Mid-range Forerunner 255/265 achieve 13-20 hours GPS depending on settings. Premium models extend much further: Forerunner 945 gets 36 hours, Forerunner 955 reaches 42 hours, and Forerunner 965 achieves 31 hours GPS. All models offer UltraTrac mode that reduces GPS sampling frequency to extend battery 2-3x for ultra-marathons. Smartwatch mode (daily wear without active GPS) lasts 5-23 days depending on model. If you run ultras or multi-day events, prioritize models with 30+ hour GPS battery.

Can I use Garmin Forerunner watches for cycling and swimming?

Yes, most Forerunner models include cycling and swimming modes. Higher-end models (945, 955, 965) have comprehensive multisport features including triathlon mode that tracks swim-bike-run transitions. All Forerunners are water-resistant to 50 meters (5ATM) for swim tracking. Pool swim mode tracks laps, stroke type, and distance. Open water swim mode uses GPS for distance tracking. Cycling mode tracks speed, distance, and elevation with GPS. Advanced models support power meter pairing for cycling power data. While Forerunners excel at running, they handle multisport tracking well—just not as extensively as dedicated triathlon watches.

Do Garmin Forerunner watches work with iPhone and Android?

Yes, Garmin Forerunner watches work with both iPhone (iOS 15 or later) and Android (Android 7.0 or later) through the Garmin Connect app. You get full functionality on both platforms including activity syncing, training plan management, data analysis, and smart notifications. Unlike Apple Watch (iOS only), Garmin doesn't restrict features based on phone operating system. This cross-platform compatibility makes Forerunner a good choice if you might switch phone ecosystems later or want a watch that works independently of specific smartphone brands.

Can I download music to my Garmin Forerunner?

Select Forerunner models include music storage: Forerunner 245 Music, 745, 945, 955, 965, 265, and some other mid-to-high-end models. You can download playlists from Spotify Premium, Deezer Premium, or Amazon Music for phone-free listening with Bluetooth headphones. Storage holds roughly 500 songs or 4GB of music. Entry-level models (Forerunner 55, 165) don't include music storage but can control music playing on your phone. If running without your phone while listening to music matters, verify the specific model includes music storage before purchasing.

What's the difference between Garmin Forerunner and Fenix watches?

Forerunner watches are designed specifically for running and multisport training with lightweight designs optimized for athletic performance. Fenix watches are rugged outdoor adventure watches with premium materials (titanium, sapphire crystal), full topographic maps, ski modes, golf courses, and more outdoor features. Fenix watches are bulkier, heavier, and more expensive. They share many training metrics with Forerunner but add extensive navigation and outdoor activity support. Choose Forerunner if you primarily run, cycle, or do triathlons and want a lighter, running-focused watch. Choose Fenix if you do diverse outdoor activities beyond running and want premium build quality with comprehensive navigation.

Do I need Garmin Coach or a training plan subscription?

No subscription is required to use Garmin Forerunner watches. All training metrics, GPS tracking, and health monitoring work without any subscription fees. Garmin Coach provides free adaptive training plans for 5K, 10K, and half-marathon distances directly through Garmin Connect—no subscription needed. If you want more advanced training plan options, you can sync workouts from third-party platforms like TrainingPeaks, but this is optional. Unlike some competitors that lock features behind subscriptions, Garmin provides comprehensive functionality out of the box.
